Becoming Mum - Becky's Story
Hi, I’m Siobhàn. The woman behind the camera here at Capture the Rainbow Photography. But, before that, I am mum to Harrison, Seb, and Jude. The Trilogy! My 3 amazing sons.
With Mother’s Day coming, I wanted to share some of the stories of your journey to Motherhood as part of a personal project; Becoming Mum.
First up is Becky’s Story…
Maternal Instinct?
I was never the girl who said they definitely wanted to be a mum; no for sure maternal instinct.
As a child who grew up with divorced parents, the bickering and resentment, I didn’t want that in my future. I said I’d only have a baby if I met the right man, the man who I knew would be a wonderful father above all else.
A man like no other
When I was just 18, I met that man. A man like none I’d ever met before; compassionate, empathetic, caring and honest.
We moved in together, got engaged and then married, all within 3 years. Then he brought up the idea of having children…
I always knew he wanted to be a dad and I finally realised that I wanted to be a mum. So we began trying.
It was in my path
I always knew that miscarriage was possible and, deep down, I felt it was likely for me. My own mum had a miscarriage before she had me so I felt like it was in my path.
Sure enough, we quickly fell pregnant but then, after a few weeks and a painful private scan, the bleeding started. A day in the hospital and emotional scan later it was confirmed that the pregnancy was lost.
A woman on a mission
After that, I was a woman on a mission. I was desperate to be pregnant again.
After 4 months, a second positive pregnancy test.
The anxiety I felt was beyond anything I could imagine.
Throughout my full pregnancy, I wouldn’t allow myself to accept it was real and happening. But it did. My beautiful daughter was born on the 25th of July 2019 at 8lb4oz.
If you could go back to 1 moment and relive it, which would you choose?
The day I gave birth to my rainbow. The whole day was perfect. It is my happy memory that I revisit every night as I try to fall asleep.
I was lucky to have everything go the way I wanted it to and I know that if I were to do it again, it wouldn’t necessarily be the same, but I could relive that day over and over again if I was given the choice.
Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us, Becky.
Becoming a parent looks so different for us all. Different situations, feelings, routes. Let’s add some voices to all of those stories.
If you’d like to be included in my Becoming Mum feature that I’ll be sharing in the run up to Mother’s Day, please get in touch using the form below.
You can write as much or as little as you’d like. You don’t have to have had a difficult journey. I’d love to celebrate all journeys, the straight forward, the wiggly, the less common. How did you feel when your baby kicked for the first time, when they were placed in your arms. How are you doing right now? Once the new has become older. The long days, but oh so short years. Tell me 🙂
As a thank you, every Mum whose story I feature will receive a £25 voucher to use towards a maternity, newborn, family, or cake smash photoshoot.
